Prepare your NAIDOC week celebrations

NAIDOC week is only a week away… if you haven’t thought about how you will celebrate and reflect on this years theme “Our Languages Matter” here are the top 10 ideas from http://www.naidoc.org.au/celebrating-naidoc-week/ :

  1. Listen to Indigenous musicians or watch a movie about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history.
  2. Study a famous Indigenous Australian. Share your findings to your social media pages.
  3. Research the traditional Indigenous owners of your area.
  4. Study Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and crafts and create your own Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art.
  5. Research Indigenous history online or visit you library to find books about Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples.
  6. Visit local Indigenous sites of significance or interest.
  7. Learn the meanings of local or national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander place names and words.
  8. Organise with your teacher to invite local Indigenous Elders to speak or give a Welcome to Country at your school.
  9. Organise with your teacher to invite an Indigenous sportsperson or artist to visit you.
  10. Organise with your teacher to invite Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander dancers to perform at your school.
